Rock Gold Ore Gravity Separation Solution Overview

The mining value of rock gold ore, also known as vein gold ore, lies in the efficient recovery of free gold particles from hard rocks. As a physical beneficiation method based on the difference in mineral density, rock gold gravity beneficiation has become one of the preferred processes for processing rock gold ores (especially alluvial and quartz vein-type gold ores) due to its low investment cost, simple operation and maintenance, absence of chemical contamination, and extremely high recovery rate of coarse-grained gold.

Rock gold ore gravity separation process flow

A typical rock gold gravity separation production line includes the following four stages:

Stage 1: Crushing

Raw ore is first evenly fed into the jaw crusher by vibrating feeder for coarse crushing, which crushes the large ore to medium size. Subsequently, medium and fine crushing is carried out by cone crusher or fine jaw crusher, and finally the ore is crushed to a size of -15mm or smaller, which is fully prepared for the subsequent grinding and dissociation.

Core equipment: vibrating feeder, jaw crusher, cone crusher/hammer crusher, belt conveyor.

Stage 2: Grinding and Classification

The crushed ore enters the ball mill. The steel balls in the ball mill impact and grind the ore in the process of rotation to further pulverize it, aiming at grinding the gold-coated veinstone minerals and realizing the full dissociation of gold particles.

The slurry after grinding flows into the spiral classifier. The spiral classifier cleans, classifies and deslimbs the slurry with the help of the principle that solid particles settle at different speeds in the liquid. The qualified fine-grained slurry overflows into the subsequent sorting operation, while the unqualified coarse-grained sand is pushed back to the ball mill by the spiral blades for regrinding, forming a closed-circuit cycle to ensure the grinding efficiency.

The third stage: gravity separation

This is the core link of gold recovery, usually using multi-stage joint operation mode, from coarse to fine, layer by layer recovery, to ensure the highest recovery rate of gold particles of different grain sizes.

Roughing - Jigger: The graded slurry first enters the jigger. The jigger utilizes vertically alternating variable-speed water flow to stratify the ore particles according to density, and the high-density gold particles quickly sink to the bottom and become the concentrate. The jigger has a large processing capacity and can efficiently recover medium and coarse-grained gold.

Selection - Shaking table: The coarse concentrate produced by the jigger and the overflow from the spiral classifier can further enter the shaking table for sorting. Shaking table utilizes the asymmetric reciprocating motion of the bed surface and the thin layer of inclined water flow to accurately sort the minerals, which can obtain high-grade gold concentrate and separate other heavy minerals at the same time.

Sweep & Fine Recovery - Centrifugal Concentrator / Flat Chute:

  • Centrifugal Concentrator: extremely efficient for the recovery of fine-grained gold. The centrifugal force field generated by high speed rotation simulates and amplifies the gravity field, enabling effective enrichment of fine gold particles, and is a powerful complement to traditional gravity concentrators.

  • Plate Chute: As a traditional but still effective equipment, it is often used for sweeping operation in the process or as the main equipment in small-scale production. As the slurry flows through the blanketed chute, the gold particles are captured in the blanket, and the concentrate is obtained by regular cleaning. Its structure is simple and low cost.

Core equipment: jigger, shaking table, centrifugal concentrator, plate chute.

Fourth stage: Concentrate treatment

The heavy sand concentrate obtained after multiple enrichment (the gold content has been greatly increased) requires final treatment to purify gold.

Amalgamation for gold extraction: The concentrate is stirred with mercury in an amalgamating cylinder or amalgamating plate, where the gold and mercury will form a gold amalgam, which will be separated from the other minerals. The gold amalgam is then heated and distilled, and the mercury is turned into a vapor that is recovered, cooled and recycled, leaving crude gold.

Final product: crude gold ingot or high grade gold concentrate, which can be sent to professional smelter for final purification.
